MARLIN WORLD CUP Mauritius

Black River

At the Marlin World Cup, accomplished anglers trawl the west coast waters of Mauritius in search of hefty billfish and shark. Their base, Le Morne Angler's Club in Black River, also hosts evening cocktail parties after each day-long fishing session. One of Mauritius most distinguished events that takes place every year is the world famous Marlin World Cup. The Mauritius island considered to be known as the jewel of the Indian ocean, hosts the best sport fishing spots in the World. The Marlin World cup has been an event for the last 19 years, attracting big game fisherman and accomplished anglers to try their luck. The world cup glories publicized Marlins weighing in at under 600 - 700 pounds. That's one big fish! A popular hang out for accomplished anglers who trawl the west coast waters of Marutiius is the Le Morne Angler's Club in Black River, also hosts evening cocktail parties after each day-long fishing session. What type of fish can I catch? Mauritius is destined to be the perfect and ultimate fishing spot with so many different types of species. Let's list a few of the types you will expect to catch around the west coast waters of Mauritius. Pacific Blue Marlins are caught at any time of the year, but we advise the best months are from November to April, usually average weights are 300 - 350 pounds, but if you're lucky you might catch up to 1500 pounds! Sailfishare among few and far between, most ever weight recorded is about 140 pounds. The Black Marlin, cousin to the pacific blue marlin, a little less prominent in comparison to it's cousins that scour the oceans, but it is noted to be caught all year round. Be sure though, you're in with a fight with this one! Striped Marlin, a bit rare but the striped marlin does lurk around Mauritius. Hammerhead Sharks plentiful around August and September periods of the year. Blue Shark uncommon and infrequent, tough catch but it is said that Mauritius does hold a record. Tiger Sharks be careful of this one, aggressive and a real fighter, will swallow anything that floats and the Tiger Shark Mauritian record was recorded in 1985, of a weight of approx 1218 in Black River Mauritius. Yellow Fin tuna, common in the months of March and start of May, but it's also roaming the waters all year round. For accommodation options around Black River, Mauritius please click here.
