NATIONAL DAY Mauritius

Black River

Mauritius' National Day is a double cause for celebration, honouring both when the island gained independence in 1968 and became a Republic in 1992. Locals commemorate with a flag-raising ceremony, parades and a cultural show on Port Louis' waterfront.
